London, December 1895: Cycling More Popular Than Ever

According to this article in the December 22, 1895 Chicago Tribune, Christmas sales were down, but cycling was "more popular than ever" and doctors were recommending cycling to their patients.

As this report from the BBC shows, bikes are still popular in the UK.  In an online poll of BBC Radio 4 listeners, bikes beat out the computer, the internal combustion engine, the germ theory of infection and other big name inventions for the title of the most significant innovation since 1800.
